Rohnert Park Man Severs Right Arm in Meat Grinder

An employee at Andronico's Market in San Anselmo reportedly severed his right arm in a meat grinder while working at the store late Monday afternoon.

Ross Valley Fire Department spokeswoman JoAnne Lewis said the department responded at 5:33 p.m. to a report of a male employee who had suffered an amputation at the supermarket, located at 100 Center Blvd.

Paramedics took the injured man to Marin General Hospital, Lewis said.

Peter Melton, spokesman for the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, said the initial report was that an employee had suffered a compound fracture when he cut his arm in a meat grinder.

Melton said the injured employee is a 28-year-old Rohnert Park man. He was scheduled to have surgery today, Melton said.

Cal-OSHA was sending an inspector to the market today, Melton said.

Damilia Loupy, a spokeswoman at Andronico's Community Markets' corporate office, said the company would not comment on the incident today.

Andronico's Community Markets also has stores in Berkeley, Los Altos and San Francisco.
