Rohnert Park Officers Save Man's Life With Naloxone
"Due to their quick action, PSO Guaiumi and PSO DeCarly brought this incident to a successful resolution."

ROHNERT PARK, CA — Two Rohnert Park officers are credited with using Naloxone, a drug that reverses the effects of opioids, to save a man's life Thursday morning.
All Rohnert Park police and fire personnel are trained to use the anti-opiate and patrol officers Guaiumi and DeCarly were dispatched to do just that shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday when they responded to a possible overdose in an apartment.
The pair were on scene by 8:01 a.m. and found a man unresponsive on the floor of the apartment. He was turning blue and was barely breathing, police said.

A roommate said the man may have overdosed on fentanyl, so Guaiumi administered the Naloxone she carries with her.
She and DeCarly then placed the man on his side, and a short while later his breathing returned to normal and he regained consciousness, police said.

Rohnert Park fire personnel and a Sonoma Life Support ambulance crew soon arrived and continued caring for the patient.
The man was taken to a hospital for further treatment.
"The subject’s 3-year-old child was present in the apartment at the time of the overdose, and was safely left in the care of his mother," Rohnert Park DPS Deputy Chief Aaron Johnson said. "A report has been sent to Child Protective Services due to the age of the child who witnessed the event."
Johnson said overdoses occur frequently.
"Some have positive outcomes, some do not," Johnson said. "Due to their quick action, PSO Guaiumi and PSO DeCarly brought this incident to a successful resolution."
