Sixteen Year Prison Sentence For Armed Assault, Robbery, Burglary In Sonoma County

Santa Rosa, CA – April 9, 2021 – Defendant Troy Kobylinski, 30 years old of Petaluma, was sentenced today by the Honorable Philip Pennypacker to serve 16 years 4 months in state prison for his September 19, 2020 crime spree across Sonoma County that resulted in pleas to seven felony counts including armed robbery, residential burglary, reckless evasion of law enforcement, vehicle theft, and multiple attempted vehicle thefts.

District Attorney Ravitch stated, “This defendant victimized multiple people with his brazen actions, and we feel this is an appropriate sentence.”

The sentence stemmed from Kobylinski’s attempts to carjack a vehicle occupied by a minor at a gas station in Rohnert Park. When that attempt failed, he crossed the street, stole a Kia sedan, and fled the area.

Three hours later in Petaluma, Kobylinski approached a woman walking through a park. He made sexually charged remarks before violently robbing her of her valuables at knifepoint. As a result of the attack the victim suffered significant facial injuries and a head contusion. In an attempt to evade authorities, Kobylinski drove to another gas station and tried to steal yet another car parked at the pump. He was unable to start that vehicle and once again fled in the Kia.

A police chase ensued resulting in Kobylinski crashing the car and fleeing on foot into a local neighborhood. There he forced his way into a home, stole the homeowner’s keys, and tried to take the car parked out front. As he attempted to do so, deputies were able to surround and take him into custody.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Brian Morimune. The Petaluma Police Department, Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety, and the Sonoma County Sherriff all collaboratively investigated the case.
