Transient Accused Of Threatening Store Clerk, Sonoma Co. Deputies

The 27-year-old threatened to kill deputies who responded to Bartlett's Market, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

MONTE RIO, CA — Sonoma County sheriff's deputies arrested a man Tuesday on suspicion of assaulting a store clerk and resisting arrest. Nicholas Detwiler, a 27-year-old transient, stole a soda at Bartlett's Market in Monte Rio and swung a knife at the clerk around 7:20 a.m., the sheriff's office said.

Deputies saw Detwiler running across Bohemian Highway and found him in blackberry bushes in the 21000 block of River Boulevard. When deputies handcuffed Detwiler, they found he had a folding knife, according to the sheriff's office.

Detwiler allegedly threatened to kill the deputies and physically resisted getting into a patrol car. A deputy took Detwiler to the ground and he was placed in a maximum restraint cord with help from a member of the Monte Rio Fire Protection District, the sheriff's office said.
