Wrong-Way Motorcyclist Arrested After High-Speed Santa Rosa Chase

A 28-year-old man is accused of driving the wrong way on a highway and starting a high-speed chase in Santa Rosa on Friday.

SANTA ROSA, CA — Police in Santa Rosa on Friday arrested a man in connection with several crimes following a motorcycle pursuit.

Jonathan Contreras-Torres, 28, of Windsor, was arrested on suspicion of vehicle evasion, evading in the wrong direction on a highway, driving on a suspended driver's license, driving under the influence of drugs, driving without a mandated interlock device and two counts of violation of probation, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.

On Friday at 5:29 p.m., an officer observed a motorcycle speeding on Guerneville Road near Steele Way.

The officer attempted to pull the motorcycle over, but the driver fled through the Coddingtown Mall, and the pursuit continued down Range Avenue where it briefly reached speeds of 75 mph.

Police said the motorcyclist then fled west on Piner Road and drove onto the sidewalk in the area of Bay Village Circle before abandoning the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, identified as Contreras-Torres, was ultimately apprehended in a nearby parking lot.
