Lithium-ion battery sparks fire, causes $50K in damage at Colorado apartment (kktv.com) — A lithium-ion battery charging on a kitchen counter sparked a fire in a Lakewood apartment, causing about $50,000 in damage and displacing the family living there. West Metro Fire Rescue says the blaze was quickly contained to the unit and is urging residents to follow battery safety tips, like avoiding overcharging and watching for swelling or odd smells.

A critical incident team led by Lakewood Police previously found no criminal conduct, but her relatives say the case highlights broader concerns about inmate medical treatment.

Vail Resorts announces new savings for those who book single-day lift tickets at least a month ahead (denver7.com) — Lakewood gets a brief spotlight here as home to the National Ski Areas Association, which notes Vail Resorts now dominates North American ski ownership. For local skiers, the bigger news is Vail’s new discount: booking single-day lift tickets at least a month ahead can save more than $100 at several major Colorado resorts, even as walk-up prices keep climbing.
