Red Rocks college students pitch their way to seed money (canyoncourier.com) — Students at Red Rocks Community College’s Lakewood campus just pitched their business ideas live to judges, winning seed money for ventures like off‑grid homes, metal wallets, and allergen‑friendly chocolate. Funded by a national entrepreneurship grant and supported by the new on‑campus Small Business Development Center, the program gives Lakewood students and residents hands‑on help turning everyday business ideas into real companies.
   

2. D51's superintendent provides update on Central High bus crash (gjsentinel.com) — A recent bus crash in Lakewood involving Central High School wrestlers left several students hospitalized, and District 51’s superintendent is assuring families those still in Denver are improving while details remain under investigation by Lakewood Police. The district is emphasizing support for affected students and families, the Warrior Classic wrestling tournament will proceed December 19–20, and a GoFundMe has already raised tens of thousands for travel and lodging costs.
   

3. Police: Man arrested in Lakewood burglary that left 83-year-old woman dead (kktv.com) — Lakewood police have arrested a 41-year-old man in connection with a December 6 burglary and fire at a South Kendall Street home where an 83-year-old resident was found dead. Investigators say the house was ransacked and a fire started inside before the victim, identified as Elizabeth Johnson of Lakewood, was discovered by a family member. The suspect is being held in Jefferson County Jail on multiple serious charges.
   

4. ‘Rebuilding,' a nuanced drama starring Josh O'Connor, was shot in Colorado (denverpost.com) — A new wildfire-themed drama, “Rebuilding,” partly filmed in southern Colorado, is opening this weekend at theaters across the state, including here in Lakewood. The film follows a rancher and his daughter navigating life after a devastating fire, focusing on family, resilience, and community among displaced neighbors. Lakewood residents can catch it in local theaters before it hits streaming in early 2026.
