Branford Coronavirus Vaccine Rates

Branford residents continue to get vaccinated. Here is how the last week went.

BRANFORD, CT — Connecticut continues to make good progress in the coronavirus vaccination race, but some infection hot spots have cropped up in the state.

About 55 percent of residents 16 and older have received at least one vaccine dose as of Thursday. Seniors have been especially keen to get the vaccine; nearly nine out of every 10 residents 65 and older has received at least one dose, according to the state Department of Public Health.

About a third of residents between the ages of 16 and 44 have been vaccinated and demand continues to be strong in the age group. General eligibility opened up on April 1.

Branford had 16,910 first doses administered as of April 14. About 60.61 percent of town residents have received at least one dose, according to the state Department of Public Health preliminary data. There were 2339 new dose administrations reported among Branford residents between April 7 and 14.

Connecticut’s infection rate has settled around an average of 30 daily cases per 100,000 residents. Hot spots are starting to appear in the state, mainly in the Naugatuck Valley.

Branford recorded 76 new coronavirus cases between April 7 and 14, according to the state Department of Public Health’s preliminary data. There have been 2379 cases recorded since the pandemic began and 66 coronavirus deaths.

Branford had 41.6 average daily cases per 100,000 residents between March 28 and April 10 and a positive test rate of 6.80 percent. There were 36.7 average daily cases per 100,000 residents in the previous two-week reporting period. It’s important to note that a relatively small number of cases can have a big effect on the case rate, especially in smaller towns.
