Branford Police Arrest Man On Burglary Charges

Police were called to a house under construction on a burglary charge and found power tools missing.

BRANFORD, CT — The Branford Police Department arrested a 58-year-old man on burglary charges stemming from a Thursday incident, according to a social media post by the department.

Branford police were called to a home in Pine Orchard on a burglary report. The home, under construction, had several power tools missing, police say.

"Branford Police developed suspects based on information from previous investigations, assistance from an alert Branford resident and information shared with surrounding Police agencies," the release says, leading them to arrest Robert Amato, 58, at his home in East Haven.

Police say Amato immediately confessed to the burglary. He was charged with third degree burglary, fourth degree larceny, criminal trespass and possession of a controlled substance.

The stolen tools were recovered.
