Branford Receives Nearly $1 Million for Affordable Housing

This is the second round of funds The Ivy Street Apartments will receive.

The state Bond Commission awarded $1,061,224 in grants to help fund improvements in affordable housing in Branford. The Ivy Street Apartments will receive another infusion of state funds on the heels of a Department of Housing award in December 2014.

State Representative Lonnie Reed (D-Branford) welcomed the additional good news.

“I appreciate the continued commitment by Governor Malloy to affordable housing in Branford,” Reed said in a press release. “By making it more cost effective to live here, we keep good people in our town and in our state.”

These funds will provide a grant-in-aid to the Mutual Housing Authority of South Central Connecticut/Branford Interfaith Housing Corporation to finance rehabilitation of the state-supported housing project.

“Housing is a key component of our success to get Connecticut moving again - one that helps individuals and families find stability and employment, and creates communities where families and young professionals can thrive,” Governor Malloy said in a press release. “I’m proud that the State of Connecticut playing a significant role in helping this project in Branford to get this project off the ground.”
