Branford resident serving on blue-ribbon panel during Financial Literacy Forum on May 6
Free Forum will provide invaluable, practical financial information that most people should know but many do not

Branford resident Gary Ottenbreit is serving on a blue-ribbon panel of financial experts during "Achieving Financial Security: A Community Forum" on Saturday, May 6 from 8 am to 2:30 pm. The event is being organized by the Connecticut Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals (SFSP) and The First Cathedral, 1151 Blue Hills Avenue in Bloomfield. The Forum will begin with a general session that is especially relevant for people age 50 and up, followed by breakout sessions for various age groups from age 18 and up.
Admission is free and open to the public. Dress is casual. The facility is handicapped-accessible.
Gary Ottenbreit is a retired 41-year employee of the Social Security Administration and a retired Brigadier General in the Connecticut Army National Guard. He held several management positions in the Social Security Administration, and has deep expertise in Social Security rules and regulations and the ways that they apply to peoples’ lives. Ottenbreit also has deep ties to Connecticut. He was born in New Haven, graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with bachelor and masters degrees in Education. When he retired in April, 2016 he was the District Manager for the Social Security Administration in New Haven. He is a Board member for the Connecticut National Guard Foundation, Connecticut Veterans Military Coalition, 102 Infantry Regiment Association, 242 Combat Engineer Association, and The Institute Library of New Haven.
Topics to be covered during the Forum include preparing for retirement; getting income in retirement; signing up for Social Security; using Medicare benefits; helping elderly parents; making sure that your family will be okay if you need care or pass away; organizing your estate to efficiently pass to heirs; and much more.
