Coronavirus Scam: Branford Police Warn Public
Police are warning the public about a coronavirus-based scam going around, telling residents not to click the link.
BRANFORD, CT — The Branford Police Department is warning the public of a scam in which the scammer uses the threat of the new coronavirus to try to get victims to click a link. The scam revolves around the idea of contact tracing for the coronavirus, but no such program has been implemented yet.
Police shared a picture of the coronavirus scam text, which reads:
"Someone who came in contact with you tested positive or has shown symptoms for COVID-19 & recommends you self-isolate/get tested."

It then offers a link, which may be malicious. Police say not to click the link.
Massachusetts is in the early stages of rolling out a contact tracing program, which would effectively notify those who have been close to somebody who has tested positive for the coronavirus, but no such program has begun in Connecticut.

The Hill reported New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are going to work together on a contact tracing program.
