While questions about candidates for First Selectman in Branford have been swirling for months, the question as to whether longtime First Selectman Unk DaRos's name will be on the ballot this fall has been answered.
At a department head meeting this morning, DaRos announced that he will not seek reelection. He sent the following email to members of the Democratic Town Committee:Â
I want to let you know that I will not be a candidate for First Selectman this fall. It is time for someone else to step forward and assume the responsibility for leading Branford for the next two years. I had decided two years ago that this would be my last term and I am looking forward to having more time for private pursuits.Â
I will leave knowing that the Town is fundamentally sound – infrastructure has been maintained; the problems have been addressed; the financials are in excellent shape. In my time remaining in office, I hope to complete several projects now underway and to lay the groundwork for progress on unfinished business.Â
I thank you for your support in the past, and urge you to appreciate what we all enjoy in Branford – a uniquely beautiful and abundant natural setting, populated by an energetic and hard-working people. If you do not currently hold elected or appointed office, please consider doing so. This is your town and your government and it thrives when we all contribute.Â
On the other side of the ballot, James Cosgrove has announced his intention to run for First Selectman.Â
