Update: Man's Body Found By Hikers In Stony Creek Marsh

Deputy Police Chief John Alves​ said that while police have identified the man, his name will not be released until his family is notified.

BRANFORD, CT — Thursday afternoon, hikers in Stony Creek discovered a man's body in the marshes just off the Branford trail near the Guilford town line, Branford Deputy Police Chief John Alves told Patch.

Alves said it was around 2 p.m. when the hikers reported their find to police. Alves said police and firefighters responded and found the body of "a deceased adult male." He said Branford detectives worked with the Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Division to "process the scene and identify the individual." But, his name will not be released pending family notification.

The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner removed the body and an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause, and the manner, of death.

Alves said police are grateful to the community for its patience as investigators did their job. He added that there is "no known threat to public safety."
