Gone Fishing: Branford Program Helping Veterans in Connecticut

The Eastern Blind Rehabilitation Center of West Haven teams with the Branford program to bring vets fishing.

Branford, CT - These veterans are enjoying the sport of fishing once again, thanks to the dedicated volunteers of one local program.

The Take a Vet Fishing Chapter of Branford has been holding fishing excursions for wounded veterans since 2007, and nearly 10 years, the chapter has teamed up with Eastern Blind Rehabilitation Center of West Haven, pairing blind veterans with volunteers on fishing trips.

The Branford chapter is the "cornerstone program of the veterans outreach mission of the First Congregational Church of Branford," according to its Facebook page.

This year, nearly 70 vets and volunteers teamed up for the Take a Vet Fishing program at Killam’s Point on June 23, The Record-Journal reports.

Take-A-Vet-Fishing's mission is simply to provide friendship and fellowship to disabled and recovering veterans by getting the vets and their staff out of the clinical environment for a relaxing day of fishing. It is truly the best medicine. TAVF welcomes any disabled veteran regardless of the type of disability.
