Legacy Theatre Announces Inaugural Season

Enhanced Safety Measures in Place

After completing a 5 million dollar renovation of the historic theater in Stony Creek (formerly the Stony Creek Puppet House), the Branford-based Legacy Theatre will open doors to socially-distant, live audiences in April. A month-long run of Neil Simon’s hilarious relationship comedy Barefoot in the Park is Legacy’s first ever Mainstage production in the restored theater. The show opens April 28th and runs Wednesday–Saturday evenings, with matinees Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays through May 23rd. Audiences will be required to wear masks and have temperature checks, and spacing in the theater is socially-distanced, operating up to 50% of capacity, as mandated in the State’s latest safety guidelines.

Although the interior is a completely re-envisioned, elegant version of a small operahouse, the exterior of the theater has been carefully maintained to reflect the historic building as it was in its heyday in the 1920s and 30s, when iconic figures such as Orson Welles ran the theater. The Legacy has worked closely with the State Historic Preservation Office, going to such lengths as numbering each board of the facade, fully restoring each, and replacing them on the building in their original location. State-of-the-art theatrical equipment, a Venetian curtain, 127 seats, and a handicap accessible tech booth are features that set this Shoreline theater apart from the rest.

The Legacy boasts an eclectic season of Mainstage productions from classics (Oedipus Rex) to world premiere musical comedies (Just Desserts) to straight plays (Barefoot in the Park), and musicals (The Last Five Years). The season is peppered with visiting Broadway artists performing concerts, Saturday morning family shows, an Expanded Voices Series, summer and fall classes, and concludes with A Christmas Carol, which plays for two weeks in December. Tickets for all 2021 events are now on sale at www.LegacyTheatreCT.org. Tickets may also be purchased on the phone anytime with our 24/7 Box Office at 1-800-595-4849. Naming opportunities and sponsorships are still available. For more information, email Gina@LegacyTheatreCT.org.
