Obituary: Bertha Kornienko, 98, of Branford
Born in Germany, she met her husband in a POW camp. They married after the war and emigrated from Munich to Branford in the early 1950s.

Bertha Kornienko of Branford passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Peter Kornienko.
Bertha was born in Munich, Germany November 3, 1922, daughter of the late Wilhelm and Anna Rothkopf. She met her husband in a POW camp in Germany and were married after the war. She and her family emigrated from Munich directly to Branford in the early 1950’s. She formerly worked at the MIF in Branford before becoming a devoted and loving mother, homemaker and gardener. She could often be found tending to her many flower and vegetable gardens at her home. She was a devout member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Branford and had an unshakeable faith.
She is survived by her daughters, to whom she was the finest example of unconditional love, Sonja Kornienko of Branford and Susanna (Albert) DiDomizio of Vero Beach, FL, and her grandson, Peter Macdonald, and many nieces and nephews in Germany. She was predeceased by her six siblings, all of Germany.Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours Thursday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and may attend a graveside service Friday afternoon at 1:00 in Branford Center Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 2 Baldwin Drive, Branford, CT 06405.
