Obituary: Carol Panico Mitchell, 76, of Branford
A devoted mother, mathematician, counselor, and nurse, she fought valiantly, triumphantly against mental illness for most of her adult life.

Carol Panico Mitchell, of Branford, passed away June 22, 2021, after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Arthur L. Mitchell, and mother to Michael A. Mitchell of West University Place, Texas. She is additionally survived by three grandchildren: Noah J. Mitchell, Natalie T. Mitchell and Gabriel S. Mitchell, of West University Place, Texas. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Esposito, of Branford.
Carol was born on June 9, 1945 and grew up in New Haven, raised by Carmen and Ann G. (Melotto) Panico.
She was a 1967 graduate of Albertus Magnus College, earning a Bachelors degree in Mathematics, and later a Masters in Counseling. Following a career in education, Carol transitioned into a career as a registered nurse, graduating from the University of Bridgeport, and working for 19 years at Soundview Nursing Care of West Haven.
Carol was a beloved, devoted and dedicated mother, and fought valiantly and triumphantly against mental illness for most of her adult life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Schizophrenia Center at the Johns Hopkins School of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Her funeral will leave the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford Thursday morning, July 1 at 9:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Bosco Parish at St. Mary Church, 731 Main Street, Branford at 10:00. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
