Obituary: Frederick A. Reimers

In memory of Frederick "Fritz" A. Reimers.

 

Frederick (Fritz) A. Reimers died peacefully on February 28, 2013 of natural causes surrounded by loved ones. He was born on Sept. 6, 1916 in Omaha, Nebraska, son of Terry Reimers and Beatrice Sutherland Reimers. 

He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Drisler Reimers who passed away in 2010. They were married in 1942 in Oklahoma City where he was teaching at the Officers Artillery School at Fort Sill.

Fritz was a graduate of the Shattuck Preparatory School and Cornell University, Class of 1939. After graduation he was employed by IBM Corporation until 1941 going on active duty in the Army during WWII from 1941 to 1946. He served in the 6th Army and was twice decorated for bravery. He retired from the Army Reserve with the rank of Colonel. 
He joined the Pond Lily Company of New Haven, Connecticut in 1946 and was employed there for 33 years becoming Vice President of Sales and later Chairman of the Board. 

In the 1950s, Fritz was active in town politics, as a member of the Republican Town Committee and was the Majority Leader for the first two years of the Branford RTM. He was a member of the Quill & Dagger Honorary Society, Chi Psi Fraternity, Quinnipiack Club and the Pine Orchard Yacht & Country Club. He transferred from Trinity Cathedral in Omaha to Trinity Episcopal Church in Branford in 1946 and later served on the Vestry and the Finance Committee. 
Fritz loved the game of golf and from a very young age was an accomplished amateur player. He won numerous tournaments including many times as the Club Champion at the POYCC. In his later years, he was a member of many Senior Golf Associations and served on the board of the Biltmore Seniors, the Connecticut State Seniors and the American Seniors.

He is survived by his sister, Beatrice McLaughlin of Omaha, Nebraska; nephew Charles McLaughlin of Chicago, Illinois; three daughters, Terry R. Byrnes (Jim) of Ithaca, New York; Jean D. Reimers of Great Falls, Virginia; and Dr. Clare E. Reimers (Waldo) of Philomath, Oregon; and five grandsons, Andrew, Mark, Keith, Adam and Brian.
