Opening Day Looms for Branford High School Teams

BRANFORD, CT — High school sports practices have been ongoing for nearly two weeks and preseason scrimmages are in full swing, but the real deal begins Thursday - opening day of the regular season for many varsity teams.

Here are the scheduled opening contests for varsity teams at Branford High School. For a complete season schedule of Hornet varsity, JV and freshman teams, visit the CIAC web site.

• girls soccer - Thursday, 9/6, at East Haven, 6 p.m.
• boys soccer - Thursday, 9/6, vs. Guilford, 6:30 p.m.
• field hockey - Friday, 9/7, at Lyman Hall, 3:45 p.m.
• girls swimming - Friday, 9/7, vs. East Haven/Wilbur Cross, 4 p.m.
• girls volleyball - Friday, 9/7, at Amity, 5:30 p.m.
• football - Friday, 9/7, vs. Lyman Hall, 7 p.m.
• cross country - Wednesday, 9/12, at Daniel Hand, 4 p.m.
