BRANFORD, CT — The mother cat and her surviving three kittens, abandoned on a roadway inside a sealed plastic food container, are doing OK.

Folks angered to see yet another case of animal cruelty, not so much.

PETA has now offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction on cruelty charges of the person(s) responsible for reportedly sealing a black-and-white cat and her four newborn kittens inside a (plastic food) container and abandoning them on the side of the road, causing one kitten’s death

“If someone hadn’t found these cats in time, all five members of this family would have suffocated to death inside that plastic container,” PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien said.

“PETA is calling on anyone who recognizes these cats to come forward immediately so that whoever left them for dead on the roadside can be held accountable,” O'Brien said.

Now, an update from the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter on the mother and her kittens

"Stevie Nicks and her three sons, Van Halen, Aerosmith and Metallica are in a foster home receiving 24-hour care. They are all gaining weight and doing well. One kitten is requiring extra support and feedings but overall considering what they have been through- we are really impressed with their recovery," wrote Laura Burban, Cosgrove shelter director.

"Saving all of these animals is truly a team effort - we could never take on all that we do without your support," she wrote, adding the shelter, and the community's thanks to "Karyn Putney for agreeing to foster these babies and Pieper Vet Staff and Doctors for helping them and continually being a great support system."

"And thank you again to all those who stepped in right from the beginning to get them the help they desperately needed," Burban said.
