Wanted By Branford Police: A New, Entry-Level Officer

BRANFORD, CT — Branford police want you to be their new police officer ...if you fit the bill.

The Branford Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Entry Level Police Officer with a June 1 deadline.

In a Facebook post, police note that the department is looking for "individuals of high integrity that are committed to service to join our progressive police agency."

Branford police officers perform law enforcement duties involving; the protection of life and property, the prevention of crime, the apprehension of criminal suspects, traffic enforcement, the preservation of peace while working closely with the community and public service duties involving non-criminal calls for service.

Police officers work 40 hours per week, picking their shift and days off by a seniority bidding system. The schedule includes working nights, weekends and holidays. Entry level officers perform related work as required and receive close supervision.

This full time position offers a salary of $65,193 - $84,398. The Town of Branford provides a competitive wage and benefits package to include, a pension plan, medical and dental insurance, life insurance, paid leave, a deferred compensation program and tuition assistance amongst other benefits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. All Candidates must have a High School Diploma or equivalent, must have a valid CT driver’s License upon appointment to the position; must be a citizen of the United States; must never have been convicted of any Felony, Class A or Class B Misdemeanor, any crime involving domestic violence or of any act which would constitute perjury or false statement.

All Candidates will be required to successfully complete a written examination, (passing score of 70% is required), oral interview and the current Police Officer Standards and Training Council physical assessment (or CHIP Card). In addition, candidates must successfully pass a background investigation, polygraph, psychological and medical examination to include drug screening, Chief's interview and final approval by the Board of Police Commissioners.

PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST DATE:
The physical agility test will be held Saturday, June 12th, 2021 at 8:30 am at the Branford High School. An applicant who has obtained a Complete Health & Injury Prevention, Inc. (CHIP) card (40th percentile) between Nov.7th, 2020 and July 1st, 2021 is not required to take the physical agility test on June 12th, 2021. WRITTEN EXAM DATE:
Candidates who pass the physical agility test or obtain a CHIP card by July 1st, 2021 will be invited to the Written Examination to be held at the Branford High School on Tuesday, July 6th, 2021 at 6:00pm. Based on COVID restrictions and number of applicants a second date may or may not be made available.

EXAMINATION PROCESS:
The written and oral examinations each carry a 50% weight towards the overall testing score. The physical agility is considered pass/fail, a passing score is required to continue in the process. Our list of entry level candidates with passing scores will be valid for a period of one year from the application deadline of June 1st, 2021.

Branford Police has a Bicycle Unit, Crime Analysis Unit, K-9 Unit, Marine Unit, Motorcycle Unit, and has members on both the South Central Connecticut SWAT Team and the South Central Connecticut Traffic Team.

The divisions include: Executive, Management, Detective, Patrol, Records, Traffic, Crime Analysis and Communications.
