2 Injured, Oil And Cargo Spill On I-95 After Overnight Crash

Two semitrailers were involved in a crash early Tuesday morning on the interstate near the Fairfield-Westport border.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A crash early Tuesday morning left two people injured, and oil and cargo spilled on Interstate 95.

The incident occurred on the northbound interstate between Exits 18 and 19, near the Fairfield-Westport border, according to the Fairfield Fire Department, which published a Facebook post about the crash just before 3 a.m.

When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they found two semitrailers, at least one of which appeared to be severely damaged and to have spilled its cargo across the roadway, according to photos that accompanied the Facebook post.

“AMR transported two patients to Bridgeport Hospital with trauma alerts,” the post said.

Additional firefighters were called to help contain a large fuel oil spill related to the crash. The state’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection also responded, and a hazmat service and towtruck were called as well.
