Fairfield Arts Commission Seeks Submissions For Public Art Project
The installations are intended to turn otherwise plain infrastructure into colorful additions to the local streetscape.
FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield Arts Commission is seeking submissions from local artists for a public art project that will feature original designs on utility cabinets throughout Fairfield. Artwork must be submitted by Jan. 23, 2026.
The project will place printed vinyl wraps on selected utility cabinets, which house traffic-signal equipment at intersections. Commission members say the installations are intended to turn otherwise plain infrastructure into colorful additions to the streetscape.
Artists may submit up to three designs for each location. Templates and detailed specifications are available in the town’s solicitation materials, and all submissions must comply with Connecticut Department of Transportation guidelines for aesthetic treatments within state rights-of-way.

A panel of commission members, working with project sponsors, will select the artwork based on creativity, relevance and suitability for public display. Chosen artists will receive a $500 stipend and will be credited on-site and in promotional materials. Final designs will be due one month after selection, with the commission handling permits, fabrication and installation. The vinyl wraps are expected to be installed in spring 2026, pending CTDOT review and approval.
Sponsors for the initiative include the Connecticut Office of the Arts, the Fairfield Public Library Board of Trustees, Fairfield University’s Center for Arts & Minds and Harbour Townhomes.
