4 Crashes On Wintry Day In Fairfield; More Snowfall Tonight

Despite some car crashes Thursday afternoon, for the most part Fairfielders were respecting Mother Nature on yet another snowy day.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield saw several crashes Thursday amid yet another day filled with snowfall, but for the most part town residents seemed to be respecting Mother Nature, according to officials.

Police responded to four accidents between noon and 4:15 p.m., according to Lt. Antonio Granata, but none resulted in injuries and there had been no road closures as of Thursday afternoon in town.

Despite several inches of snow, it was a fairly quiet day for the fire department.

“We haven’t had anything weather related,” Assistant Chief Roger Caisse said. “People seem to be respecting the weather and being cautious.”

With a possible 6 inches of snow forecast for Thursday, Fairfield Public Schools opted for an early dismissal, Town Hall closed mid-afternoon and parking restrictions were announced for the beach area starting 6 p.m.

Five inches of snowfall were reported as of 3 p.m. in Fairfield, and the area is expected to see another 1 to 2 inches overnight, and less than 1 inch Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Saturday could bring flurries in the afternoon, and while there’s no accumulation predicted for Sunday, it’s possible there will be more snow Monday, mixed with rain, according to the weather service.

There's been no shortage of the white stuff this month, with more than 2 feet of snowfall in Fairfield so far in February.

Thursday afternoon: Periods of snow, possibly mixed with freezing drizzle. Steady temperature around 25 degrees. Wind chill values between 15 and 20 degrees. Northeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Thursday night: Periods of snow, possibly mixed with freezing drizzle, becoming all snow after 9 p.m. Low around 26 degrees. Wind chill values between 15 and 20 degrees. Northeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Friday: Periods of snow. High near 34 degrees. Wind chill values between 15 and 25 degrees. Northeast wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of less than 1 inch possible.

Friday night: A 30 percent chance of snow before 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26 degrees. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph.

Saturday: A chance of flurries after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 35 degrees. Northwest wind 8 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

Saturday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 19 degrees.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 34 degrees.

Sunday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22 degrees.

Monday: A chance of snow before 10 a.m., then rain and snow likely between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., then rain likely after 2 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 40 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Monday night: A chance of rain and snow showers before 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
