4 Inches Of Rain Possible In Fairfield As Elsa Bears Down
The first selectwoman warned residents not to drive through flooded roadways and to avoid downed wires.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield could see up to 4 inches of rain in the next day as Tropical Storm Elsa bears down on Fairfield County.
First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick said the town Emergency Management Team was preparing for the storm, and warned residents of the possibility of localized flooding and winds above 20 mph.
“I would like to remind residents not to drive through standing water on flooded roadways and to avoid any downed wires,” Kupchick said in a Facebook post Thursday afternoon.

Fairfield is expected to get 1 to 2 inches of rain overnight and another 1 to 2 inches Friday, the National Weather Service reported.
As of about 6 p.m. Thursday, Fairfield was under a flood advisory until 7:30 p.m., a severe thunderstorm watch through 9 p.m., and a flash flood watch until noon Friday. Tornadoes may also be possible, according to a statement from the weather service.

In addition, Elsa could create marine hazards such as rough seas and dangerous rip currents

Thursday night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after midnight. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Low around 70 degrees. Southeast wind 5 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
Friday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Some storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 84 degrees. East wind 9 to 15 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
Friday night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68 degrees. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.
Saturday: A 20 percent chance of showers after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 82 degrees. North wind around 6 mph.
Saturday night: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66 degrees. Calm wind.
Sunday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
Sunday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
