7 Elementary Schools In Fairfield Named 'Schools Of Distinction'

The schools were named in the Connecticut State Department of Education?s latest Next Generation Accountability Report.

FAIRFIELD, CT ? Seven Fairfield elementary schools have been named Schools of Distinction in the Connecticut State Department of Education?s latest Next Generation Accountability Report.

Burr, Dwight, Jennings, North Stratfield, Osborn Hill, Riverfield and Sherman schools all earned recognition based on high academic performance, student growth, or both, according to district officials.

  • Burr Elementary: Recognized for high growth in English language arts and math for all students.
  • Dwight Elementary: Named a high-performance school.
  • Jennings Elementary: Cited for high performance and high growth in English language arts and math for all students and high-needs students.
  • North Stratfield Elementary: Recognized as a high-performance school.
  • Osborn Hill Elementary: Earned distinction for high performance, along with high math growth for all students and high-needs students.
  • Riverfield Elementary: Recognized as a high-performance school with high growth in English language arts for all students and high-needs students.
  • Sherman School: Earned distinction for high growth in English language arts for high-needs students.

The state?s accountability system evaluates schools on 12 indicators tied to college, career and life readiness. Measures include academic achievement, growth over time, graduation rates, attendance, physical fitness, and access to the arts.

Schools ranking in the top 10 percent on individual indicators receive School of Distinction status, and each school can earn up to six distinctions annually.

"We are thrilled to celebrate seven Fairfield schools being recognized as Schools of Distinction this year," Superintendent Michael J. Testani said in a statement. "This recognition reflects the dedication of our outstanding educators and staff, who work each day to create meaningful learning experiences and support every student?s growth and success."
