Blaze Burns Through Roof At Fairfield Farm: Fire Official
A building at Little River Farm in Greenfield Hill caught fire Tuesday afternoon, according to a Fairfield official.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Firefighters were called Tuesday to a small farm in Fairfield after the building where the business sells its crops caught fire.
Officials rushed to the scene just before 1 p.m., when the blaze was reported at Little River Farm in the 300 block of Mine Hill Road, according to Assistant Chief George Gomola.
Workers on the farm had seen heavy black smoke coming from the chimney of a building used to house employees and serve as a farm stand, Gomola said. Not long after they saw the smoke, the roof caught fire.

“We’re fortunate no one was hurt,” Gomola said.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control in about 20 minutes, then spent an hour putting out hidden fires in the walls, according to Gomola, who said the blaze started in a wall, extended to the attic and burned through the wooden roof.

“The firefighters did an outstanding job to confine the fire to the attic and the attic void,” Gomola said.
The structure can be salvaged, according to Gomola. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Little River Farm will still be able to do business, despite the blaze.
"The fire was contained to a specific area, and we will still have our eggs and some produce available," a Facebook message from the farm said. "Thankfully no one was hurt. We are grateful for the care and support from our community."
