Car Crashes Into Fairfield Storefront

"He went right through," said a manager at the Fairfield store, where a car crashed into a front window Friday.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The staff at Mo’s Wine & Spirits got quite a surprise Friday when a car crashed through the store’s front window.

“I didn’t see it myself, but this older gentleman drove through the window,” Manager Francois Saudeau said. “He went right through.”

The incident occurred just before 10 a.m. at the store in the 900 block of the Post Road, according to Assistant Chief Roger Caisse, of the Fairfield Fire Department. The driver was attempting to park outside the business, when the vehicle mounted the curb and struck the corner of the building, shattering the plate glass window, Caisse said.

The 86-year-old man, who was driving his daughter’s Ford Focus, told first responders the vehicle accelerated on its own, according to Caisse. The man was not charged, but law enforcement requested that the Department of Motor Vehicles review his ability to drive, Fairfield police said.

No one was injured, according to Caisse. Insurance is expected to cover the damage, Saudeau said.
