Car Jumps Curb, Lands in Embankment Near Railroad

Talk about right place, right time.

Officer Kevin Wells had taken K-9 Ruger in back of OfficeMax on the Post Road Thursday for a quick bathroom/rest break when an MTA worker called Wells over, according to Officer Bob Chaisson.

A woman attempting to make a u-turn in the tight area behind the OfficeMax plaza had gone over the curb and down the embankment next to the railroad tracks.

Wells was able to pull the woman, a 32-year-old Fairfield resident, out of the car and call 911.

The woman had no visible injuries, Assistant Fire Chief Erik Kalapir said, but was transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center as a precaution.

"It's a good thing no one else was back here" at the time of the incident, Kalapir said.

The woman's car -- which was still somewhat functioning -- was towed from the scene.
