FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield residents in the mood for a quick and crispy bite may soon have a new option. Plans are underway for chicken sandwich giant Chick-fil-A to open a restaurant in town.

The eatery is proposed for 750 Post Road, which was home to Joe’s American Bar & Grill until it closed about two years ago, according to Community and Economic Development Director Mark Barnhart.

“There’s a lot going for it,” Barnhart said, noting Chick-fil-A's enthusiastic and loyal customer base.

The plan for the restaurant has gone through code review, and an application was recently filed seeking a special permit from the Town Plan and Zoning Commission, according to Barnhart. The proposal, which includes a double-stack drive-thru and large parking lot, will be subject to a public hearing.

In a prepared statement, Chick-fil-A acknowledged the possibility of a Fairfield location, but did not go so far as to confirm it.

"We are always evaluating potential new locations in the hopes of serving existing and new customers great food with remarkable service," the statement said. "While we hope to serve the Fairfield community in the future, we do not currently have any locations to confirm."

The hearing is expected to take place later in the summer, Barnhart said.

“I think overall it’s a good use for the site and we’ll look forward to going through that process,” he said.

The roughly 2-acre property where the eatery is planned was sold late last year for just under $4 million to out-of-state investor 750 Associates LLC. Located along the Post Road commercial corridor near Planet Pizza and Sunny Daes, the site is bordered by Eliot Place and Eliot Street.

“Obviously a key will be how the site is able to handle traffic both on the adjoining streets and roadways, as well as the internal circulation plan,” Barnhart said.

A Chick-fil-A in Fairfield would be the restaurant chain’s fourth location in Fairfield County, with other eateries already open in Norwalk, Danbury and Brookfield.
