Connecticut Weather: Nearly 12,000 Residents Without Power, Severe Thunderstorm Watch In Effect
The National Weather Service has just issued new weather alerts for the area, and we'll let you know the latest details.

UPDATE: Nearly 12,000 Connecticut residents are without power as of 11:30 p.m. Wednesday including 1,100 in Greenwich, , 1,100 in Middletown, 300 in New Canaan, 700 in Bethel and 700 people in Danbury.
Original post: The National Weather Service has issued a “Severe Thunderstorm Watch” for all of southern Connecticut, which includes Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties from now until 2 a.m.
A Wind Advisory is also in effect until 4 a.m. for the same areas in Connecticut.
According to the National Weather Service “there is the potential for damaging wind gusts late this evening into the overnight with a line of showers and thunderstorms along and ahead of a cold front.”
“Localized flooding is also possible in areas of poor drainage and for those faster responding streams and small rivers.”
Tonight winds will be 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Power outages are also possible.
About 1,000 Connecticut residents are without power as of 9 p.m., including 371 people in New Canaan.
Timeline
Showers and thunderstorms before 3 a.m. then just showers after that. Some storms could be severe with hail and heavy rain. Temps are rising throughout the night and into the mid 50s by midnight.
One inch of rain is expected tonight. The showers end Thursday morning before noon, with temps falling throughout the day.
