Driver Injured After Striking Pole, Fleeing Scene: Fairfield Cops

When officers reached the scene, they saw the driver running away and chased him, according to Fairfield police.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A driver struck a utility pole and fled the scene of the crash in the early morning hours Monday, according to Fairfield police.

Just before 1 a.m., the driver tried to negotiate a curve on Edward Street, and left the road, hitting the pole, police said, noting that while the vehicle suffered front-end damage, utility service was not interrupted.

When officers reached Edward Street, they saw the driver running away and chased him, police said. The driver, a 43-year-old man, stopped when ordered to do so, according to police.

The man had abrasions on his arms, hands and face, police said. He was treated at the scene and then taken to Bridgeport Hospital, according to police.

Law enforcement is investigating if alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, police said.
