The rescue occurred overnight after two cars crashed in the area of Interstate 95 northbound, just north of a Fairfield rest stop, according to a Facebook post from the fire department timestamped 3:35 a.m. Sunday.

One vehicle went over the guardrail and down an embankment, while the other was pinned under the rail, firefighters said. Emergency personnel used a saw to cut the rail and hydraulic rescue tools to remove the doors and door post.
