Fairfield Fire Commissioners Elect New Chair

The January 2019 meeting of the Fairfield Fire Commission was the first one led by Craig Van Steenberger, a longtime member of the group. He was unanimously elected at the December 2018 meeting. At that meeting, Commissioner Barbara Rifkin made the motion, seconded by Commissioner Harry Ackley Sr. Van Steenberger replaced Joseph Olzacki who was elected the Commission's Secretary. Olzacki replaced William Fitzpatrick.

At the January meeting, Olzacki officially passed the gavel over to Van Steenberger as Chief Denis McCarthy and Deputy Chief Kyran Dunn looked on. Both meetings were held at the Fairfield Regional Fire School Conference Room at 205 Richard White Way, formerly known as 205 One Rod Highway.

The Nominating Committee was led by Dorothea Brennan and included Ackley and John Brannelly. The group has a tradition of rotating the position of Chair among the Commissioners.
