He was arrested early Saturday night Westport, police said.

A 28-year-old Fairfield man was charged with driving under the influence after an accident in which his car was damaged and two of his tires were flat, according to a report in the Westport News, which got its information from Westport police.

Westport police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the incident, according to the newspaper:

David Douglas of Flora Boulevard drove his vehicle into the parking lot at Bridge Square at the intersection of Bridge Street and Riverside Avenue, where police were sent by a 7 p.m. report of a possibly intoxicated male. Douglas didn’t pass police-administered field sobriety tests, his driver’s license appeared to have been suspended, and he’d been operating the vehicle with unsafe tires.
