FAIRFIELD, CT — A Fairfield mother faces several charges after her young child was abandoned last month in the rain at a Bridgeport intersection, according to police.

Sharon Williams, 41, was taken into custody Friday on New England Avenue in Fairfield, and charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, cruelty to persons, risk of injury to a minor, abandonment of a child under age 6, and leaving a child under age 12 unsupervised, police said. Her bond was set at $250,000, and she is set to appear in court Monday, according to police.

The incident that resulted in Williams’ arrest and charges occurred March 31, when police responded to Burroughs and East Main streets in Bridgeport after receiving a report that an approximately 5-year-old child was dropped off by a woman, and left alone in the rain, law enforcement said.
