Fairfield Officials Honor Grand Marshal Peter Carroll

State Rep. Cristin McCarthy Vahey and First Selectman Mike Tetreau Attend Ceremony to Honor Labor Leader Peter Carroll

The Greater Bridgeport St. Patrick's Day Celebration Committee bestowed Peter F. Carroll, a local resident, with his Green Jacket and Sash making his appointment as 2019 Grand Marshal official. The ceremony was held a recent reception at Vazzano's Four Seasons before 350 guests. The jacket and sash were presented by 2018 Grand Marshals Dave and Ann Marie Curtin of Fairfield at the Grand Marshal's Ball organized by Lisa Fabian. The parade will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019 at Noon in Downtown Bridgeport.

Fairfield First Selectman Michael Tetreau was on had to speak and to congratulate Carroll. Fairfield State Representative Cristin McCarthy Vahey presented a citation from U.S. Senator Chris Murphy and a state proclamation. Town of Stratford Council Chair James Connor represented Mayor Laura Hoydick at the event and State Represenative Joe Gresko presented a citation from Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro. Other dignitaries attending the awards ceremony included Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim, Senator Marilyn Moore, Senator Dennis Bradley, City Clerk Lydia Martinez, City Council President Aidee Nieves, and Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti among others.

Professionally Peter is the Business Manager of Local 488 I.B.E.W., the title sponsor of the Grand Marshal's Gala. He also serves as President of the Fairfield County Building Trades. Through these positions Peter can continue to advocate for better working conditions for his members.

Peter Carroll is the third Carroll brother to receive the honor. Bill Carroll received the award in 1992 and his brother Frank Carroll received it in 2011. His late brother Tom Carroll was one of the original organizers of the event according to Catherine Brannelly Austin, the founder of the parade.
