Fairfield Schools Lose Internet For Several Hours Monday

The outage meant students, teachers and staff in Fairfield school buildings could not access the internet or any web-based applications.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield schools had no internet for much of Monday due to a statewide issue with the school district’s service provider.

The problems began Monday morning, according to a message from the school district posted on Facebook by Board of Education Secretary Jessica Gerber. Issues with the internet circuits were to blame, according to district Director of Communications Andrea Clark, who said service was initially restored after about three hours, but that the outages returned in the early afternoon.

“This is a statewide issue with CEN, not only Fairfield,” Clark said in an email, referencing the district’s internet provider, the Connecticut Education Network.

The outages meant students, teachers and staff in district school buildings could not access the internet or any web-based applications, according to Clark. Students learning remotely were able to use school applications, including Google Classroom, but could not use Google Meet to live-stream with their in-school classrooms.
