Search is On for New Southport Harbor Master
After 22 years with one man at the helm, Southport needs a new Harbor Master.

Fairfield is currently searching for a town resident to become the next Southport Harbor Master.
The Harbor Master is a state official appointed by the Governor for a three-year term. The Harbor Master serves as an ex-officio member of the Fairfield Harbor Management Commission (FHMC) and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Southport Harbor, according to First Selectman Mike Tetreau.
“Our Town has been very fortunate to have Pat Carroll serve with such distinction as Southport Harbor Master for the past 22 years,” he said. “Pat’s dedication is truly remarkable and is very much appreciated. I hope that we will be able to find someone just as worthy to fill this important role.”

It's the responsibility of the Harbor Master to assist the FHMC with implementation of the Southport Harbor Management Plan, adopted by the Fairfield RTM and approved by the state. The Harbor Master must work cooperatively with all agencies and organizations with responsibilities affecting Southport Harbor, according to Tetreau.
The FHMC will review all submittals and provide a list of recommended nominees to the Governor. The Governor will appoint the Harbor Master from a list of no less than three nominees provided by the FHMC.
