Fairfield Town Clerk Betsy Browne Earns International Distinction

Town of Fairfield Town Clerk Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Browne was awarded the International Institute of Municipal Clerks' (IIMC) designation of Master Municipal Clerk by the board of directors of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks based in Rancho Cucamonga, California. The award was presented at the March 25, 2019 Representative Town Meeting (RTM)by Fairfield First Selectman Michael Tetreau.

"Only a few people in the country have this designation," stated First Selectman Michael Tetreau. In honor of this distinction, "Now therefore, I, Michael C. Tetreau, First Selectman of the Town of Fairfield do hereby proclaim Monday, March 25, 2019 as 'Elizabeth P.Browne Day' throughout he Town of Fairfield," said Tetreau.

Following Tetreau's presentation to Browne, the RTM membership and audience erupted in applause and a standing ovation.

IIMC grants the MMC designation only to those Municipal Clerks who complete demanding education requirements; and who have a record of significant contributions to their local government, their community and state. In addition, they have to subscribe to a code of ethics.

“We applaud your educational accomplishments and achievement of this milestone and congratulate you on your personal pursuit of professional excellence,” stated Stephanie Carouthers Kelly, MMC IIMC President.

Betsy Browne has been Town Clerk in Fairfield since 2005. Betsy is a Master Connecticut Certified Clerk and the Editor of the New England Clerk Newsletter of the New England Association of City & Town Clerks (NEACTC) and am Past President of the NEACTC. She has earned numerous certifications and held various positions in the field maintaining and recording vital statistics.

A lifelong Fairfield resident, Browne serves a trustee at St. Catherine’s Center for Special needs, is a board member of the Kiwanis Club, secretary of the Memorial Day Committee, is an active member of the Gaelic American Club and St. Vincent’s Swim Across the Sound.
