FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield officials welcomed a new restaurant this week when Café Transilvania opened its doors, bringing a taste of Romania to town.

Owners Alina and Christian Caldarariu are both from Transylvania, and wanted to provide Romanian and Eastern European people with a taste of home while simultaneously introducing Americans to Romanian cuisine.

“We chose Fairfield because we love the community and because there is a large Romanian population in, and around, Fairfield,” Alina said in a news release from the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce.

Café Transilvania's menu offers traditional Romanian foods such as mici, a skinless sausage; stuffed cabbage; and Hungarian paprikash alongside American classics like baby back ribs, burgers and all-day breakfast.

Alina and Christian have about 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, including in fine dining. Both of their mothers are chefs, “so the passion for cooking runs in the family for generations,” Alina said.
