Fairfield Wildcats Squad Remains Unbeaten

The Fairfield Wildcats eight grade team continued their winning streak with an 8-0 victory at Ridgefield on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

The Wildcats pounced late in the second quarter with a dazzling drive. Fairfield’s quarterback Matt Cerminaro connected with receivers Alexey Linsenmeyer and Jack Kovaleski for big gains moving the ball downfield before hitting the trifecta with Zachary Taylor in the corner of the end zone for a 6-0 lead. Cerminaro then found wide receiver Justin Keith for the two-point conversion.

The single scoring drive was all Fairfield needed as the defense held Ridgefield scoreless. Ridgefield had opportunities to get on the board throughout the game, but the strong Wildcats defense led by Josh Evans, Jacob von der Linden, Clay Zachery, and Will Parisi stopped their efforts.

The undefeated Wildcats are improved to an unbeaten 3-0-1. In all three wins, the Wildcats have held their opponents scoreless. 

Fairfield will next head south to face Darien at Darien High School on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

7th grade (blue) falls to top-seeded New Canaan

The Wildcats 7th grade blue team took on the first place, undefeated New Canaan red on Sunday at Warde High School. Despite a tough effort, Fairfield lost a hard fought game 27-12. 

New Canaan’s high powered offense put Fairfield in an early deficit, but the Wildcats battled back for two second half scores.  The offense was led by the power running of Kevin Quinn and Jaden Sneed.  Sneed ran for two touchdowns and converted on three fourth-down conversions aid the last scoring drive. 

The offensive line played very well in the second half and saw contributions from Danny Russell, David Dingham, Ryan Hummerstone, Joe Gjinaj, Justin Hathaway, Michael Auray as well as Tight Ends Jack Bowen and Vince Camera.

Fairfield Blue has a bye this week and will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 13 against Westport South.

6th grade drops home opener

The 6th grade Wildcats team dropped its home opener to Ridgefield 25-6 on Sunday.  The Wildcats offense showed signs of life as Alex Farkas got behind the secondary and caught a pass from quarterback Quinn Pavoz for 40 yards, setting up Farkas' 20 yard touchdown score on the end around.

Tailbacks Sean Nelson and Conner O'Neill also ran hard on the day, netting the team over 100 yards on the ground.  On defense, Massimo Perillo fought for a fumble at the bottom of a pile in the first half to get a turnover and keep it close early.

5th grade beats Darien

The fifth Grade Wildcats defeated Darien 19-6 at home on Saturday.  Fairfield's balanced offensive attack came alive this week led by Lorenzo Cooper and Brendan Howard's consistent gains on the ground. The offensive line of Billy Grace, Jack McKenna, Jimmy Cullinan, Travis Hayden and Sean Flannery provided the running lanes.  

Scoring came on a first quarter two-yard sneak up the middle by quarterback Andrew Conklin. Late in the second quarter, Conklin threw a 35-yard pass from Conklin to Jack Morison who took it into the end zone and in the third quarter, Cooper ran 61 yards for a touchdown. Jonathan Gladstone added a two-point conversion.  

Harry Chandler provided an great downfield block as quarterback PJ Boehm ran on 35 yards for a score.  

Fairfield improved to 3–1 with the win and will host Ridgefield next Saturday at Ludlowe High School.

4th grade (blue) puts away Ridgefield

The Wildcats fourth grade blue team defeated Ridgefield orange 27-6 on Sunday at Tiger Hollow Stadium in Ridgefield.

Ronan O’Donnell ran 55 yards to pay dirt on just the second offensive play for the first Wildcat score. John Moore added the extra point on a quarterback bootleg beating Ridgefield’s defenders to the pylon.

O’Donnell added his second score of the day on the next series running up the gut on a two-yard dive.  The extra point was added by a Ryan O’Connell run.

Fairfield scored again on a perfectly played interception return by Zach Hathaway.

The Wildcats closed out scoring on a sweep play by Matt Passios that was set up by a 40-yard interception return from John Moore. The extra point was added by Tyler Hibbard

Fairfield’s offensive line opened big holes all day for the Wildcat running backs led by Grady Golier, Luke Lesizza, Ryan Ginley, Jake Neff, Jack Martin, William Mears, Matt Marsden, Greg Coghlan and Ethan Righter.

Defensively, Fairfield frustrated Ridgefield all day.  The defense was led on the defensive line by Grady Golier and Ryan Ginley.  Fairfield Linebackers contained Ridgefield’s backs to mostly short inside gains.  Other strong defensive performances were put in by Kevin Kuczo and Ethan Clarke.

4th grade black falls to Wilton

Wildcats hit the Road vs. Wilton White. Wilton opened up on offense where the Wildcats Defense would play stingy with big plays from the secondary. Harrison Keith would take away a reception from a receiver and bring it to the one yard line. Wildcats would score on that drive but not convert putting the Wildcats up 6-0. Wilton would connect on the pass to tie the game in the second quarter. Kevin Howard would lead the defense in tackles along with help from D tackle Casey Woodfine to limit big gains.

Tommy Schindler and Karl Schmidt would try to get the offense going in the second half. Defense would see the field for most of the second half with several tackles by Ryan Voytas, Jack Reilling and Andre Mead. Wilton would score one more time to close the game 12-6
