Family Escapes Fire At Fairfield Home
"Had there not had been working smoke alarms, the outcome of this fire would have been much worse as the entire family was sleeping."

FAIRFIELD, CT — A Fairfield family escaped an early morning fire after they were awoken by smoke alarms.
Emergency personnel received a report about 4 a.m. Tuesday of smoke coming from the basement of a house on Brichwood Drive, according to a fire department news release. When firefighters arrived at the home, they found the occupants, who included young children, in the front yard, and heavy smoke coming from the front door.
Smoke alarms woke the family, who then evacuated the home and called 911, the news release said.

Crews found a fire in the garage, which was connected to the basement, and extinguished the blaze, according to the news release. Firefighters also found heavy smoke on multiple floors of the house.
“The occupants of the home were extremely fortunate that they had working smoke alarms that alerted them to the fire,” Assistant Chief Schuyler Sherwood said in the news release. “Had there not had been working smoke alarms, the outcome of this fire would have been much worse as the entire family was sleeping.”
