Fireworks Are Illegal And Dangerous: A Reminder From Fairfield PD
"We would like to stress the importance of residents not attempting to create or engage in a fireworks display," the police chief said.
FAIRFIELD, CT — As the Fourth of July and summer celebrations arrive, the Fairfield Police Department is reminding residents that using fireworks is illegal in Connecticut.
Non-professional, non-licensed state residents cannot buy, use, possess or sell fireworks. Items such as party poppers, snakes, smoke devices and anything that emits a flame are not legal for private use in Connecticut. Residents are prohibited from purchasing fireworks elsewhere and bringing them into the state. Sparklers and fountains, which are not considered fireworks in Connecticut, may be sold and used by residents aged 16 or older.
"Unfortunately this year's Fourth of July Fireworks Display in Fairfield has been canceled due to social distancing and health concerns presented in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic," Police Chief Christopher Lyddy said in a department news release. "While it saddens us that our residents will not be able to enjoy this year's occasion, we would like to stress the importance of residents not attempting to create or engage in a fireworks display. Fireworks use by a non-licensed individual is illegal and could result in injuries if not handled properly."
