First Selectman Tetreau Welcomes Irish Group at Lantern Point

The Greater Bridgeport St Patrick's Day Celebration Committee hosted its annual Summer Committee Picnic at Fairfield Beach's Lantern Point last night. Fairfield First Selectman Michael C. Tetreau and his wife Giulia Tetreau were on hand to welcome the group to town. The party was hosted by Olivia, Lou and Liz Gilbert DeFeo.

The Grand Marshal for the 2019 Parade, Peter Carroll, who recently retired from as the Business Manager of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 488 introduced the 2020 Grand Marshal, Mary Ann Doonan to the group. Among Doonan's many community leadership posts, she was the first woman president of the Gaelic American Club.

Mary Ann Doonan will be formally introduced to the community at the Gaelic-American Club on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at 4 PM at its Half Way to St. Patrick's Day Party. Tickets are $25 and includes delicious appetizers. Live music will be performed by Keltic Kick. It is a fundraiser for the parade which will be held in Downtown Bridgeport on March 17, 2020. It takes about $75,000 annually to pay for the parade and fund its scholarship program.

The St. Patrick's Day Parade has been a Downtown Bridgeport tradition since 1983 and has been held in rain, sleet, snow, wind and sunshine. The original parade Committee was formed back in 1982 when Bridgeport Mayor Leonard S. Paoletta asked City Clerk Catherine C. Brannelly. The late Fairfield First Selectman John Sullivan was among the many Fairfielders to serve as Grand Marshal.
