Get Your Kids to Run Off Some Energy this Winter!

For Kids ages 5-8 years old Every Saturday for 6 weeks Learn to play Irish Sports in a fun, non-contact, action packed environment

St. Patrick’s Gaelic Football and Hurling Club is excited to announce that we still have some spaces left in our popular “Introduction to Irish Sport” program that will take place every Saturday afternoon (4-5pm) at the Fieldhouse (Sportsplex) in Fairfield. Running for six weeks from January 19 through February 23, children ages 5-8 years old can come and run around and learn the basics of Irish Sports.

St. Patrick’s Gaelic Football and Hurling Club has been the home of Irish Sports in Fairfield County since 2003. St. Patrick’s players keep the ancient sports alive and have fun while learning to compete as a team as they play in the New York Gaelic Athletic Association. Jimmy Feeney, the Chairman of St. Pats, said, “While we compete with New York-area clubs with teams from 6 or 7 years old to adults, our goal for this program is simply for young players to have fun while playing sport. Each week the games and exercises emphasize teamwork, hand-eye coordination, and fitness for young children.”

Gaelic Football is a sport from Ireland dating back to the 14th century. It is considered an amateur sport, and coaches, managers and players are not paid to play but rather compete to keep the traditions alive. Teams play against one another and move the ball up and down the field by hand passing, kicking and dribbling. There are 2 ways to score in Gaelic Football, one is kick or punch a ball into a soccer style goal and the other is to kick the ball over a set of goal posts.

Gaelic Football is a fast paced, exciting sport in the older age groups but everyone has to start at the beginning! This Introduction to Irish Sport program will provide children with the opportunity to improve hand-eye coordination, learn new ball skills that can be used in other sports and most of all, have fun trying something new!

“When we attended our first Introduction to Irish Sports, our main goal was to give our son and daughter a place to expend some energy. Not only did they do that, but they learned a new sport that they both love to do!” – Kristin Sikes, parent of U12 and U14 players
