Holland Hill Closed For Rest Of Week Due To Coronavirus Case

A staff member at Holland Hill Elementary School has contracted the coronavirus.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Holland Hill Elementary School will close for the rest of the week after a staff member tested positive for the coronavirus, according to school district officials.

“… the PM cohort is cancelled for today and Holland Hill will be closed on Friday, October 16 to allow for cleaning and contract tracing,” said a message Thursday from Superintendent Mike Cummings and COVID-19 Health and Safety Compliance Liaison Angelus Papageorge.

The staffer who contracted the virus has not been in the school building since Monday, according to the message, which said the Fairfield Health Department contact tracing team will notify anyone who needs to self-quarantine.

Holland Hill is the second school to announce a temporary closure this week. Riverfield Elementary School is closed Thursday and Friday, also after a staff member tested positive for the virus.

As of 10 a.m. Thursday, three students and three staff members across the district were confirmed to have the virus, according to district data. Another 23 students and one staff member had recovered after testing positive. So far, cases within the district have been contained to Fairfield Ludlowe High School, Fairfield Warde High School, Tomlinson Middle School, and Riverfield and Holland Hill.

Additionally, 46 students and staff district-wide are in quarantine. Community members at a total of 13 district sites have tested positive, are in quarantine or both.
