Injured Hiker Rescued From Lake Mohegan Trails
A good Samaritan helped guide emergency personnel through the trails to find the victim, who suffered a head injury.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Good Samaritans aided first responders Monday in rescuing a hiker who fell and suffered multiple injuries near Lake Mohegan.
Emergency personnel responded about 12:30 p.m. to the area of the trail system near the north end of the cascades, according to Fairfield Fire Department Assistant Chief Roger Caisse.
A woman was hiking with her dog when she fell and suffered injuries to her head and wrist that were not life-threatening, Caisse said, adding the fire department used an all-terrain vehicle to bring the woman to an ambulance.

One of the biggest challenges for emergency crews responding to an off-road location like a trail is finding the injured person, as cell service and GPS systems can be unreliable in such areas, according to Caisse.
“In this case there were good Samaritans that were with the woman who was injured,” Caisse said.

One of the good Samaritans left the hiker to lead the fire department to the injured party, while another stayed with the woman, according to Caisse.
“Whenever you’re hiking in a place like that always be in contact with somebody or have a partner with you,” Caisse said.
