Judge Sues Town Of Fairfield Over Pickleball Injury

A superior court judge who broke his neck during a pickleball lesson is suing the town of Fairfield, according to the Connecticut Post.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A judge has filed a lawsuit against the town of Fairfield after he broke his neck taking pickleball lessons at the senior center, according to the Connecticut Post. Fairfield resident and Superior Court Judge William Wenzel also broke his ribs and suffered other injuries after running into a concrete wall in January 2019 at the Bigelow Center for Senior Activities, the Post reported.

Wenzel is seeking damages against instructor Elizabeth Hulme as well as the town, according to the Post, and is claiming Hulme failed to warn Wenzel and then moved him after he was hurt, rather than immediately calling for a medical professional. The lawsuit also claims the town put the courts too close to the walls and did not pad the walls, the Post reported.

Hulme told the Post the lawsuit was a first for her, while the town attorney declined to comment to the paper.
